The
Effects of the Holy Spirit
In the Old and the New Testament we see
activity of the Holy Spirit, the visible and the invisible effects of the Holy
Spirit among the people of God.
The Holy Spirit has made himself known in
invisible and visible forms. The effect of the Holy Spirit is seen in many of
characters of the Bible. The people could see the effect of the Holy Spirit among
the prophets of God. Some of the invisible effects found in the Bible are:
“In
a little while the heavens grew black with clouds and wind; there was a heavy
rain. Ahab rode off and went to Jezreel. But the hand of the Lord was on
Elijah; he girded up his loins and ran in front of Ahab to the entrance of
Jezreel,” (1Kings 18:46).
Elijah outran the chariot
because of the Holy Spirit was upon him, the Holy Spirit could not be seen but
the effects were seen.
“Then
Samson went down with his father and mother to Timnah. When he came to the
vineyards of Timnah, suddenly a young lion roared at him. The spirit of the
Lord rushed on him, and he tore the lion apart with his bare hands as one might
tear apart a kid. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had
done,” (Judges 14:5-6).
Here again we see the
invisible action of the Holy Spirit coming upon Samson, he was strengthened and
made bold to kill the lion.
“Then the Lord came down in the cloud and
spoke to him, and took some of the spirit that was on him and put it on the
seventy elders; and when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But they
did not do so again,” (Numbers 11:25).
Again we see the invisible
action of the Holy Spirit coming upon the judges, and they prophesised.
The invisible activity of the Holy Spirit
and effects is seen in thousands of believers around the world.
“I
pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be
strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit,” (Ephesians
3:16).
The effects of the invisible workings
of the Holy Spirit are seen in strengthening the inner being of the believers
in Christ.
The leading and
sanctification and empowerment of a believer are the invisible activity of the
Spirit of the living God.
The Holy Spirit also has made himself know in
visible forms both in the old and new testaments.
As a mighty wind, “And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent
wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting,” (Acts 2:2)
As a tongue of fire, “Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue
rested on each of them,” (Acts 2:3).
As a
dove, “And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water,
suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending
like a dove and alighting on him,”(Matthew 3:16).
As a pillar of fire and a cloud, “The angel of God who was going before the
Israelite army moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from
in front of them and took its place behind them. It came between the army of
Egypt and the army of Israel. And so the cloud was there with the darkness, and
it lit up the night; one did not come near the other all night, (Exodus
14:19-20). These activities were seen and felt by the people both in the
old and the New Testament.
